What is mobility training?

More than stretching

Mobility is your ability to move a joint actively, with strength and control, through its full range of motion. That last part matters: it's not the same as flexibility, which is how far a joint can be pushed passively. You can be flexible and still lack the strength to use that range — mobility is about owning it.

These classes are built around CARS: Controlled Articular Rotations. CARS are slow, deliberate, full-range rotations of a single joint, performed with tension and control. They train the joint to move better, build strength at your end ranges, and send your brain clear signals about where your body is in space. Done consistently, they keep your joints healthy, resilient and moving the way they're meant to.

WHY IT MATTERS

This isn't yoga, and it isn't stretching

Stretching lengthens a muscle. Yoga holds you in positions. Mobility training is different — you actively strengthen your joints through their fullest range, which is what protects them.

Most aches and stiffness come from range your joints have lost and the body quietly working around it, until something complains. A few minutes of controlled work per joint, done regularly, reverses that — so you move more freely, feel looser day to day, and train with less risk of injury.

It's some of the highest-value work you can do, and almost nobody does it.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A CLASS

Here's how it works

A small group, so you get real attention and hands-on guidance from Claire. You'll work through the body's major joints — hips, shoulders, spine and more — learning to control each one through its full range. Every movement is scaled to you, whether it's your first session or you already train hard elsewhere.

  • When: Saturday mornings, 8:30–9:30am

  • Where: Chapel Allerton, North Leeds

  • What to bring: comfortable clothes you can move in, and water

  • Experience needed: none — beginners genuinely welcome

You'll leave feeling looser, more aware of how your body moves, and with work you can carry into everything else you do.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Everyone who wants to move well

You don't need to be flexible, fit, or "good at this" to start. You need joints, and a willingness to work them properly.

These classes suit complete beginners who feel stiff and want to move more easily, right through to serious athletes. They're especially valuable if you train hard in something demanding: kickboxing, BJJ, martial arts, lifting, running. Mobility is what lets you get into positions safely, recover better, and keep training without breaking down. Whether you sit at a desk all week or compete at weekends, if your body doesn't move the way you'd like it to, this is for you.
